you don't have to use etna for longinus and you don't need the DA. just talk to the spear guy once you have any char with lvl 25 skill in spears.
don't waste too much effort on trying to up spears skill just for a shot at the hyperdrive though. once you get it you don't need it as you practically already did the hardest thing to do in the game to get it. it's a footwear item with no stats and you can move to any free space with it equipped but you can not enter the gate to the next level with it still equipped, so it can be annoying too.
also, don't try to actually win the bill for getting the senators to pay you money. if you would win, you only get a little and you'll have trilions of hell by the end anyway. (get some broker specia1ists. like statistitians they cap at 300) you can use that bill to more easily raise their respect for you with various items (get the cheapest items, senators only care about the random stat "itemlevel")
also, specia1ists do NOT give you more of their effect if you go deeper into the item. if it has a power of 30 normally, it will always have a power of 60 when you subdue him even if you were to manually increase his level. (or otherwise).
a really really good place to level up in the beginning is the one level in the ice world where almost every panel in the level has the geo effect "invincibility" except for one. just throw every single monster (the cats and the succubi) on top of each other so they are combined. this goes up to about level 110 normally. if you trap this monster than by throwing and 2 chars on the one spot he can be hurt (and you not) you can wittle away his health. be aware you'll need some decent hit or it'll keep dodging. improve this effect by having 300 statisticians on the killing dude and by passing the tripple exp bill beforehand.
if even that becomes slow, you can think about passing the stronger enemies bill so you'll get even more exp.
another good stage for grinding is the one near the end with a field full of +100 exp zones and 4 strong vampires. combine them all, 300 stats and tripple exp will give you massive exp. (all of the bonusses are cumulative, not additive. to my knowledge)
cave of ordeals is fucking hard to get but you'll want that to really grind later on. it's another stage with +100 exp and 9 dudes in a convenient 3x3 grid so you can waste them with a single AoE move (if you are strong enough). tripple exp bill doesn't work well here but it's a great enough stage anyway.
also, you prolly already know this by now but specia1ists that improve stats directly such as gladiators should be put on a sword as you get bonusses on weaponstats from weaponskill. (255 weaponskill nearly gives you 15x base stats. get those armsmasters pronto)
