Warhammer FortressThousand Boku Man!Z.h01e2ZII 21/11/2009(Sat)08:21:49 No.386846
The Inquisitor sighed. He still had two piles of paperwork to go through. He admitted that he would rather be on a mission on some remote planet than on ahive planet going through paperwork, which is just what he had done for the last two months. At least then something different would happen, he though. Indeed, he had spent the last week at his desk, doing nothing but clearing up paperwork regarding his last assignment, which he admitted could have gone a lot smoother.

Just then, the door to his office opened. Since it was not time to eat, he assumed it was Master Rennan again to dump another pile of paperwork on his desk. Indeed, it was Master Rennan who entered, and Inquisitor Elinder sighed slowly. "More paperwork, I assume, Master Rennan?"
"At ease, Elinder. That is not why I am here", he said. Elinder raised his head to look at the Master with at least a slight bit of optimism. Indeed, it must be something good if the master comes in and it isn't just more bloody paperwork, he thought.
"I'd assume you're not here about the paperwork then", he said slowly, while trying to get some dust out from his eyes.
"That is correct, although I have to admit that you could work a bit faster on it." Elinder frowned slowly and muttered some minor curses. Over the last few weeks, he had grown ever more annoyed of the master, due to him dumping ever more paperwork on him. "I have an assignment for you, Elinder."
Elinder finally rose up from his chair, and looked dobtingly at the Master. "What kind of assignment?"
"I need you to investigate the nearby Hive Cerebus. There has been an unusual increase of gang activity in that area." He said, and turned towards the door. "Come with me, and I'll explain more."
Inquisitor Elinder looked a bit skeptical at what he had just heard. Resolving gang violence is not part of an Inquisitor's duty, so he could only assume there was something more to it than that. He followed Master Rennan slowly outside, and for the first time in the last week, he stepped out in a more brightly lit corridor. He raised his hand, trying to adjust his eyesight to the light as he followed the Master through the corridor.
"Normally, this kind of assignment would not be beyond the duties of the Adeptus Arbites", he said with a tone that really assured there was more to it than just that, and indeed it was, "but we have gotten incoming rumors that there are some odd psychic activity down there." this sudden realization shocked Elinder hard. Not because of what it was, but WHERE it was. And that just so happened to be right on Holy Terra, the grand capitol of the Imperium. "Under these circumstances, it is too risky to involve too many officials in this investigation."
Elinder looked shocked. "I understand completely what this could mean," he said slowly. "If this means that we may have heretics on Holy Terra, it could threaten the stability of the whole Imperium."
"Precisely." Rennan looked out the window nearby. "Therefore, to avoid having this whole ordeal going public, I took the liberty to choose you to investigate this whole matter." He turned to Elinder and smiled somewhat amused. "Besides, I know you have just been dying to get away from your paperwork anyway. An aircar is waiting for you outside. I have also assigned a psyker to accompany you during this assignment. When you're ready, go talk to her outside."
Elinder looked shivered slowly as he walked towards the exit. He was happy to get away from the paperwork for a while, sure, and an assignment would definitely be a nice bit of fresh air for him, but he would never have imagined that it would involve rooting out heretics on the Holy Terra itself. The whole idea was just too absurd for him. He tried to shrug it off as he walked out the door and saw the psyker which was assigned to him.
"Inquisitor Elinder, Ordo Hereticus." He said to the short, brown-haired woman before him.
"Karen Pilleas, at your service", she said somewaht politely, but with a serious undertone. "Let's cut the introductions and get moving. I'll explain more on the way." She opened the door to the aircar. "Get in", she said.
